First, I must say last night I could not pay the 5 dollars and watch the game on my computer because Wednesday night is bowling night So I brought my handy-dandy AM-FM radio to the Western Bowl and listened to the first half there. I then spent the entire second half listening to the rest of the game in my truck which is an entirely different story.
The most interesting thing about this game was the different opinions on how the referees called the game. While listening to the game on 550 KRC, it sounded as though Xavier was getting robbed on some calls yet, in the background whenever a call was made against Charlotte the fans seemed to go completely insane and act as though they were getting robbed. So in order to sort this chaos out I called my Dad who was watching the game via Yahoo online. He said that the announcers on his feed were from Charlotte and said that the officials gave the game to Xavier but in his opinion it was just a badly reffereed game with way to many fouls. Thats the sense I got from listening to the game. Heck both teams were in double bonus with something like 7 minutes to go in the game. That is insane. It a tough, big-time conference game I know the officials want to keep the game in control but they need to give the wissle a break every once in a while.
One last note about last nights game and this Xavier team. I have heard many commentators say that one thing that may hurt Xavier is that when the games are close they really don't have that go to guy. I disagree with that now after the last 3 games. Xavier has a go to guy every game, the thing is that the go to guy may not always be the same. For instance last night Burrel and Lavender struggled to get anythin going but Duncan was dominant. So when the game was in the balance with 20 seconds to go they got the ball to Duncan who made the game winning three pointer. Last Saturday, after struggling the last few games Raymond found his shot and when the game was in the balance they made the extra pass to Raymond for the open game winning three. What I am noticing is Xavier knows where to get the ball with the game on the line. They get it to the person they should in each game. Last night that go to guy was Duncan. In other games this season it has been Lavender. So no Xavier may not have one person who is always the go-to-guy every game, but they do have a go-to-guy each game and get it in their hands when the game is in the balance.
