The recent controversy about fountain square showing the Ohio State game instead of UC's game on Saturday night has been a hot topic this week. The city admitted to making a mistake and has said it will never happen again and I ask this question; should it have happened anyways? Is Ohio State the dominant team in this city when it comes to college football? The answer is as easy as 1 + 1 = 2. The answer is no and up until UC's resurgence this town was more of a variety in schools supported. This town has many Notre Dame fans, like myself, it has Michigan fans, Kentucky fans, Ohio State fans, and every other team on this planet fans. The rest of the state claims Cincinnati is a foreign city and is not like the rest of the state in just about anything and they are right. Espn's Pat Forde (sp?) wrote an awesome article about Cincinnati a few months ago that really summed this city up. We are not like Cleveland or Dayton or every other place in Ohio who breathe, sleep and eat the Ohio State Buckeyes. We are Cincinnati, a place where college football was defined as a Saturday in front of your TV watching the big games throughout the country and developing your own favorite teams. I grew up a huge Notre Dame fan but love Kentucky too but since they were down for a long time I became a fan of the SEC in general. Every Saturday it seemed there was a big game on TV from the SEC and it was easy to fall in love with the conference when you live in a city with no prominent college football team.
But now this free agent city that was lacking an identity in terms of college football is being taken back and is now UC's town. I hate UC in college basketball but with so many local players on the football team and no other local college team it is easy for me to be a fan of this team. This is our team. This is every cincinnatian's team, every person who has been missing something on Saturday afternoon when your relatives in Alabama are so caught up in Auburn's game that they won't answer your call and you just don't understand. Now you can understand because you have a team, we have a team to make plans around and have all your friends over to watch. Xavier basetball fans, like myself, this is your college football team. We can still love those teams we have been used to cheering for because they were on TV every week or in a big conference. I will still love Notre Dame and UK but UC is our team. The rest of Ohio will never understand us but its ok a lot of people can't understand our unique city. It is time to realize and take ownership of the College football program up on top that hill in Clifton. They have done everything they could do to earn our support now we must take ownership of their program and be the great fans and a great sports town that all the other major college football teams enjoy. This is Bearcat football country and this is the way it should have been from the start.

Hello,
I really enjoy your blog.
I was wondering if you'd heard about www.takkle.com/rankings.
It's an online social networking site for high school athletes and sports fans.
Right now they're having a contest for the top 100 high school athletes.
If you go to the link you can rate players, view and upload movies, and interact with other users.
Just spreading the word. Thought it might be something you or your readers would like.
Keep up the good work!
J
